About BOBISUKA

A bench in Portland, a question about what comes off, and a range that grew backwards from it.

The first BOBISUKA palette held two colours, black and white, and it existed because a school play went badly. The theatre paint we borrowed took three washes to come off a nine-year-old, and one parent was still finding grey in a hairline on Monday.

Gold paint worked over a cheek
Gold, worked dry over a clean cheek.

So the bench started with a narrow question: what comes off. Everything since has been built backwards from that. A prototype sits on the workbench for a month and gets painted on, washed off, and painted on again before anyone signs it off, and the people behind BOBISUKA wear it first.

The range has grown to 269 pieces since then, and the question has not changed.

What we make

The BOBISUKA range is 269 pieces: water-activated cakes, cream pots, oil paint, twist-up sticks, blood in four consistencies, wax, latex and the brushes and powders that go with them.

It is sorted 15 ways by look and 11 ways by colour, because people arrive either knowing the face they want or knowing the colour, and almost never knowing the product code.

How we describe things

Where a piece carries a claim on its packaging, we print that claim in the words it uses. Where it is silent on a point, so are we.

Payment, delivery and returns happen at our retail partner when you check out.
